"Since Junto, I no longer have that level of intimidation, and I learned that I bring just as much value to the table as everyone else."

What is your most memorable Junto moment?

Graduation night was memorable as it was the end of nine months of a lot of hard work. I was feeling a mix of pride, readiness, and appreciation, and I was ready to get back to work.

How would you describe your areas of expertise based on industry, market, and/or function?

My own expertise is around understanding a problem and all of its pieces, and then crafting and implementing an effective solution. Our expertise as a company is creating online experiences. We may help to create content for a marketing-focused website, or integrate solutions to make a more effective employee experience.

What is one book, blog, or podcast you recommend widely?

The Challenger Sale. It articulates how to dig into a business owner’s problems, have an open discussion about it, and find ways to solve it.

What have you learned about yourself through participating in Junto?

I was behind the monitor as a programmer for 25 years. It’s not the most social job, and even though I wouldn’t call myself introverted, sometimes I’d go into a meeting and I’d be intimidated by a potential client or someone with a more prominent or respected role, even though I myself was a CEO. Since Junto, I no longer have that level of intimidation, and I learned that I bring just as much value to the table as everyone else.

Finish the following sentence, "In my experience, ______________."

People who are on teams desire progress. As long as you keep going up, people are energized and excited.

What's something that's not on your LinkedIn profile that you wish was?

That my personal career goal is to be involved in some kind of foundation working for the greater good and making some kind of difference. My profile now is pretty weak when it comes to how involved I am in those organizations.

What are you working on right now?

We’ve been following a business operating system methodology called, “Scaling Up.” It’s more like a textbook, with cool forms and worksheets that you can use to do specific initiatives.
