What is one book, blog, or podcast you recommend widely?

If there was a book that I had to recommend, it’d be How To Win Friends and Influence People. But, I really prefer autobiographies or biographies of people that have built and done great things.

What are 1-2 leadership virtues you've observed or learned in your career?

Understanding that you can’t do it alone. Your people are the most important thing. Investing in and relying on them sets you up for success in your business.

There is always someone that knows more than me in any particular area, and it’s important to realize and embrace that. Also, I’ve always found that people generally like to help other people. We don’t embrace that enough. There’s a reluctance to ask for help, we think we need to know everything. You can accomplish anything with dedication and humility.

What have you learned about yourself mentoring with Junto?

How much I love working with young entrepreneurs. I can pass along the mistakes that I’ve made so that young entrepreneurs have the chance to see those same mistakes and avoid them.

What is your strength when it comes to emotional intelligence?

The fundamental thing about EI is knowing what someone else wants, because then I can frame myself based on what they’re looking for. I’ve gotten better at quickly assessing a situation and then framing the discussion based on how everyone else will win, by what they are looking for.  

How would you describe your areas of expertise based on industry, market, and/or function?

I’ve developed an expertise in growing and scaling businesses by seeing business through a funnel - I can see both the big picture and the little details. I’m good at developing and selling the “big idea” at a company.

Maintaining perspective.
