What have you learned about yourself mentoring with Junto?

Mentoring with Junto has shown me that there are so many people who are just starting on their journey that don’t have the same experiences and learned knowledge that I have now. My experiences are valuable and can help others with the journey ahead of them.

What is one book, blog, or podcast you recommend widely?

Radical Candor - It’s a guide to inspire leaders to “care personally and challenge directly”. It has high level philosophy as well as tactical day-to-day strategies. The book has even come up in Junto Mentor meetings, and my entire team is reading it currently.

What are 1-2 leadership virtues you've observed or learned in your career?

You have to genuinely care about the people that you work with. We devote so much time and energy into our work lives, it is crucial that we are our authentic selves. Leaders have to model the behaviors that they want to see in others or at the company; everything must start at the top: behaviors, attitudes, and emotions.

What is your superpower?

Continuing to learn and reinvent myself. My personal and professional lives have been winding and constantly changing. I am always eager to learn, and I have always been opportunistic, or I will create opportunities for myself.

How would you describe your areas of expertise based on industry, market, and/or function?

I’m a marketer - I lead and build marketing teams. I manage strategic marketing for technology companies, and within the last 10 years, I’ve mainly been working with cloud-based software companies. I’m passionate about working with growth stage or emerging companies and helping them focus their brand, build strategies, and build their teams.

What is your strength when it comes to emotional intelligence?

I’m authentic and I care deeply about the people around me. We are a family at work; I only succeed when the team is successful.

What is something that's not on your LinkedIn profile that you wish was?

That I’m a Grammy award winning musician; it’s not there because it’s not true! I have a passion for music and for playing - I’m a drummer and a bass player - and I wish I had made it further as a musician.

Finish the following sentence: "In my experience, ______________".

I have found that you will only be happy if you love what you do and you enjoy the people that you work with. Discovering your purposes and passions, or “finding your why”, will lead you into loving what you do.
