Part of Junto’s brand promise is growing together: by participating in a rigorous learning program with each other, a leadership team elevates its capabilities as a group, benefiting the company exponentially more. And when they get other team members involved, that can further accelerate their collective growth.

But “growing together” doesn’t end there.

In most cases, Junto companies themselves are growing, often at a rapid rate. So when

Apprentices and Alumni actually apply what they’re learning from their Mentors, who’ve already experienced these growth dynamics, they’re in better position to effectively keep up with the company’s growth.

Through our history, we’ve seen numerous companies outgrow an individual, often a founder or executive who leaves during, or soon after, the program. But in the past few weeks, I’ve heard from two Alumni who believe they’ve outgrown their companies. This is a first for me.

Candidly, I’m not sure how to process this just yet. On one hand, I’m deeply curious how effectively the company is applying what it learned through Junto and from its Mentors; I wish I could be the proverbial fly on the wall in their offices to see how they lead and how they execute.

On the other hand, I appreciate the self-awareness of these Alumni and take their word at face value. I’m planning on further conversations with them to learn what they saw as milestones, or perhaps warning signs, of the intersecting growth curves between them and their companies. Hopefully, that could serve as valuable shared experiences for other companies.

Then I’ll have to figure out how to properly integrate this into our brand promise.
