PREREQUISITES: Sessions 1 – 10

One of the hardest responsibilities of a manager is to improve the skills and performance of their direct reports by being a coach. It requires an ability to learn about each person, what their strengths and limits are, how they’re motivated, and what language or behavior to use in communicating with them. In other words, it requires emotional intelligence.

In this session, you’ll learn how to apply the building blocks of emotionally intelligent leadership in a coaching context. We’ll begin by highlighting what coaching is and how it contrasts with advising, mentoring, supervising, etc. We’ll then move into how you can use social awareness skills such as curiosity, listening, and service in order to build stronger bonds with your team members. Finally, you’ll learn how to leverage those bonds to influence and inspire your direct reports to build their skills and improve their performance.

This is session #11 of 12 total in the “Emotionally Intelligent Leadership” program.
